Hepatitis C is a viral infection that affects the liver. It can cause both acute (short term) and chronic (long term) illness. Not sexually transmitted infection. (virus detection in blood- rarely detected in semen/vaginal fluid. The virus lasts up to 3 weeks outside of the body Hepatitis C.

Pontential complications from chronic hepatitis C include cirrhosis of the liver, liver failure, liver cancer and premature death. Many people infected with HCV do not know they have the virus because the symptoms can take 2- 6 months to appear.
